1950s pop music history for guitar lovers! Click To Tweet

axe-50s-cover-200x300My latest ebook comes out July 9, 2016. It is called “Number One with an AXE! A Look at the Guitar’s Role in America’s #1 Hits.”

The book’s premise is simple: I listened to (and watched videos of) all the Billboard #1 hit songs of the second half of the 1950s–starting with the first rock & roll #1 hit, “Rock Around the Clock”–and paying special attention to the guitar parts.

Using a scale of 0-10, I rated each song in four guitar-related categories: Riffage, Rhythm Playing, Fills and Solos. The “perfect guitar song” would receive a total score of 40. (None of the songs did, but there are still a lot of gems!) I also write a brief commentary/review of each song.

I included links to YouTube videos so the reader can watch and listen to the biggest hits of the late fifties–it’s a fantastic trip down memory lane!

“Number One with an AXE!” sells for $2.99. Anyone who pre-orders here will receive a free bonus: a “statistical deep dive”–lots of lists looking at how all the Number One hits break down in several different categories. Trivia buffs and guitar geeks will LOVE this extra material! After July 9, 2016 the bonus “statistical deep dive” will not be available.
